Mining engineer: an entrepreneur whose expertise lies in the discovery, exploration and development of natural resources. Also founder and Chairman of Petra Diamonds, Chariot Oil & Gas and the Pella Resources Group which is the holding company for a number of mining and oil and gas companies primarily based in Africa.  Pella is also engaged in a number of charitable initiatives which aims to help empower the communities in which it operates.
BernieBernard Pryor – Chief Executive Officer
Metallurgical engineer: until recently Mr Pryor was the Chief Executive Officer of African Minerals Limited and prior to that the Chief Executive of Q Resources plc. Between 2006 and 2010 he held senior executive positions within Anglo American Plc as head of business development, and CEO of Anglo Ferrous Brazil Inc.
Andrew Ferguson – Non-Executive Director
Chief Executive Officer and Head of Investment Team of APAC Resources Limited. Mr Ferguson has over 13 years’ experience in global financial markets and the natural resources sector. Prior to working with APAC, Mr Ferguson co-founded New City Investment Manager, a natural resources fund management house in the UK, and worked for EMG Suisse S.A. within institutional and private client management.
Dorian Barak – Non-Executive Director
Dorian Barak is a private equity investor and asset manager focused on Africa, the Middle East and Europe. He is Managing Director of Indigo Global, which advises private clients, companies and investment funds on acquisitions, strategy and capital management, and serves on the boards of directors of companies active in the natural resources, aviation and technology sectors. He holds a BA from UCLA, a Master’s Degree from Oxford University and a Juris Doctor Degree from Yale Law School.
David Brown, Non-Executive Director
Appointed as CEO of Coal of Africa Limited effective from February 2014. He was previously the non-executive Chairman from August 2012 and then the executive Chairman. David has been a non-executive Director on the Vodacom Group Board since January 2012 and is Chairman of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee as well as a member of the Remuneration and Investment Committees. He is the former CEO of Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) and was Chairman of Impala Platinum Limited and Zimplats Holdings Limited, the two major operating subsidiaries within the Implats Group. David was CEO from 2006 to 2012 and before that he served as Chief Financial Officer from 1999. He is a former non-executive Director of Edcon Holdings Limited as well as the former Chairman of the Edcon Audit and Risk Committee. Prior to that, David worked for the Mobil Corporation in Europe for five years. He served his articles with EY in Cape Town.
Keith Johnson, Non-Executive Director
Over 25 years of experience in the natural resources sector, 18 of which were in the mining industry where he held various senior positions within Rio Tinto plc, including on its executive committee from 2003 to 2009. From 1999 to 2003, Mr Johnson had overall responsibility for Rio’s global bauxite & alumina business. In 2007, Mr Johnson was appointed head of business resources, where he was part of the team responsible for the integration of Alcan Inc., following its acquisition in October 2007. In January 2010, Mr Johnson joined FTSE 100 oil and gas company, BG Group plc, as General Manager of Strategy and Portfolio Development. Mr Johnson holds an MBA in Finance and a BSc degree in Mathematics and Operational Research.
Mukuna Ilunga, Non-Executive Director
Yves Ilunga AGA(SA) is Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Cement in the Republic of Congo. He has 16 years’ experience in the mining industry. Prior to working with Dangote, Mr Ilunga worked with Endeavour Mining on their Houndé Project, and was Chief Financial Officer of Sierra Rutile Limited. He also worked for AngloGold Ashanti and De Beers Consolidated Mines in Ghana, Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Africa. Mr Ilunga is an Associate of the College of General Accountants at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds an MBA from the Graduate School of Business of the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
Mason Hills, Non-Executive Director
Mr.Hills has advised Resource Capital Funds since 2001, and joined in an in-house capacity in 2006. Prior to joining RCF, he practiced as a commercial lawyer, specializing in corporate and finance law in the resources sector. He has a B.Ec. degree from the University of Western Australia and a graduate LL.B (First Class Honors) from Murdoch University.
Mr. Hills serves on the Board of Directors of the following portfolio companies: First Bauxite Corporation, First Drilling Group and Global Advanced Metals Pty Ltd.

Osam Iyahen, Non-Executive Director
Osam Iyahen is a Director at AFC. He is responsible for the natural resources sector where he leads transaction origination and execution, and client coverage. He has over fifteen years of international energy finance and business development experience, including involvement in multi-billion dollar projects with ExxonMobil, Shell, and Chevron. Osam has also undertaken advisory engagements with Booz Allen & Hamilton and Petroleum Finance Corporation (PFC Energy).

He has led AFC in developing a rapidly expanding natural resource franchise in Sub Saharan-Africa, with over $650M valued landmark transactions in final credit and investment approvals in the last 9 years approved and executed by the Corporation, with leading sponsors seeking to undertake financing transactions. He currently serves as AFC’s Non-executive board member in Seven Energy, which is AFC’s first and only equity investment in the natural resources sector.

Osam obtained his MBA from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University (Johnson School of Management) in New York State. He is bilingual, and has presented and moderated various topics at international oil & gas, mining and infrastructure conferences.

Rachel Rhodes – Chief Financial Officer
Chartered Accountant. 15 years’ experience in the mining sector, working with Anglo American PLC and as CFO of London Mining PLC. Extensive background in raising significant project and corporate finance and in negotiating mining licences and fiscal platforms, especially in West Africa. Also Non Exec Director of Anglo Pacific Group plc and a Trustee of In Kind Direct, a Prince of Wales’ Charity. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Cambridge and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Kevin Mclean – Project Director
Geologist with over 20 years experience in the mining industry. Involved in major pit to port projects from bankable feasibility studies to production. He has worked for mining companies such as Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metal Group and was recently the Chief Operating Officer with Shansteel Sierra Leone, a subsidiary of the Chinese steel producer, Shandong Iron and Steel Group. He has been holding executive strategic positions for the last 10 years.

Tristan Clarke – Commercial Director

Over 10 years experience as a senior commodities and resources executive. With a background in finance, he has broad commercial experience, particularly in commodities marketing, complex negotiations, supply chain, business development, corporate strategy and M&A. He previously worked with Shandong Iron and Steel Group, African Minerals and Anglo American.

Catherine Garcia – Environmental and Social Director

Over 20 years experience in sustainable development and community relations, previously working with Ivanhoe Mines, IFC, Rio Tinto and Xstrata. She has extensive experience with resettlement and compensation programmes, development of ESIA plans, community development, biodiversity, and stakeholder engagement.

Jan Booyse, Project Manager

Extractive Metallurgist and Project Management Professional (PMP) with 20 years experience in project development, EPCM, process engineering and operational management in the iron ore, diamond, gold and PGM industries.10 years of relevant experience in project development and operations management in the West African mining industry, including the role of Project Director for the Marampa Iron ore project in Sierra Leone, incorporating haulage, materials handling and marine logistics solutions similar to the Bel Air project.

Andries Cilliers – Technical Director
Exploration Geologist with 15 years’ experience developing and managing exploration programmes in West Africa, working for BHP Billiton and De Beers. He has extensive bauxite, manganese, diamond and nickel early and advanced stage exploration experience across Africa. Andries has five years’ experience developing exploration projects in Guinea and is familiar with the geology and operating environment.
